INVISIBLE
CITIES
Invisible Cities is a book described in a mysterious manner on imaginary, utopian-like cities, which turns out to be Venice. Reading between the lines, it is evident that the author, Italo Calvino made use of the urban problems in Venice and spins them off into individual city. I translated these imaginary cities into reality, showing destructive effects of these urban problems. The illustration seems to be portraying a beautiful city from far, but by looking closely, one could see the ugliness in the city within the details. Using black ink on black background was a conscious decision; I felt that it further pushes the subtleness of this covered ugliness.
